If you or a loved one lived in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, or New Mexico* during the nuclear testing era and later developed a qualifying internal cancer or leukemia, you may be entitled to $100,000, TAX FREE under RECA.

*If a family member is deceased, their spouses, children, or grandchildren are considered eligible beneficiaries and may make a claim on their behalf.

RECA Downwinders Eligibility

*Areas:

  • Arizona - Apache, Coconino, Gila, Mohave, Navajo, or Yavapai.

  • Idaho - Entire State

  • Nevada - Eureka, Lander, Lincoln, Nye, White Pine, or the northeastern portion of Clark.

  • New Mexico - Entire State

  • Utah - Entire State

*Residency: Lived in any of the above states for a period of at least one year from January 1951 up through November 1962, (New Mexico only from November 1944 up through November 1962) or the entire month of July 1962, you may qualify for compensation.

Benefit Amount: $100,000 TAX FREE (one-time federal payment for qualified Downwinders)
